Exterior of Maitland Hospital showcasing contemporary healthcare architecture, supported by Galvin’s ligature resistant tapware and bathroom fixtures designed for clinical environments.

Project Description

The new Maitland Hospital sits at the crest of a hill with views across the floodplains of the Hunter River. Its red screen and facade are a homage to the former brick quarry that was on the site before.

Considered a model for regional hospitals, it instills a positive experience by maximising comfort for patients and staff.

Covering 50,000 square metres and spanning seven floors, it boasts state-of-the-art clinical and emergency services for the 339-bed including emergency, paediatric, maternity, chemotherapy, and contemporary operating suites. The hospital also provides dedicated mental health services, supporting both inpatient and outpatient care, and contributing to a holistic approach to community wellbeing.

The project also delivered environmental benefits including photovoltaic solar panels and a waste reduction and recycling scheme that generated only 3.6kg of waste per square metre, and enabled over 90% of that waste to be recycled.

Appointed plumbing contractor Planet Plumbing closely collaborated with Galvin Engineering to assist in creating safe, home-like environments for best healing outcomes. With many years' experience in creating such environments we supplied ligature-resistant sanitaryware and tapware with residential-style aesthetics from our Wallgate and GalvinCare ranges - supporting the hospital’s commitment to safety and dignity in mental health care settings.
