NDIS Robust Housing  

The Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) Design Standards came into effect on 1 July 2021. Under the standards there are 4 categories set out in the SDA Rules (2020): 

The standards help to improve clarity on design requirements on how housing for people with disability should be built and focus on providing a home environment that allows the individual to live as independently as possible. 

These new mandatory housing accessible standards will be introduced into the National Construction Code (NCC) in 2022. 
 



What is Robust housing?  

Robust housing has been designed and built to incorporate a high level of physical access provision and be very resilient, reducing the likelihood of reactive maintenance and reducing the risk to the participant and the community. This housing provides safe independent living while protecting the client and the community.
