Secure Water Management Across Two Northern Territory Youth Justice Facilities
The Northern Territory Government invested in two modern youth justice facilities to replace ageing infrastructure with secure environments that better support rehabilitation, education and the wellbeing of young people in detention.
The Holtze Youth Detention Centre (HYDC) near Darwin was developed as the Territory's primary youth detention facility, while the Alice Springs Intake and Transfer Facility (ASITF) was upgraded to improve custodial services in Central Australia. Together, the projects represent a significant investment in modern infrastructure designed to provide safer, more secure environments for both detainees and staff.
The Challenge
Detainee accommodation areas demand water services that are secure, reliable and easy for staff to manage. Territory Families and NT Corrections needed a solution that enhanced safety, reduced water misuse and flooding, and provided centralised control of water services within detainee cells – all while operating reliably in demanding custodial environments.
The Galvin Solution
Galvin supplied the Wallgate Water Management System, providing complete electronic control and monitoring of water outlets across both facilities.
Following a successful tender, Galvin managed the supply and delivery of the system and associated components before commissioning each installation. This included verifying operation, testing programmed functions and working closely with the project team to integrate the system seamlessly with each facility's control infrastructure.
The completed solution enables staff to centrally manage water services throughout detainee accommodation areas – controlling when and where water is available – helping reduce opportunities for misuse and flooding while supporting a safer environment for detainees and staff.
The Outcome
Galvin delivered a reliable, secure and fully operational water management solution that provides staff with centralised control over detainee cell water services across both Northern Territory facilities.
Commissioned, tested and fully integrated from day one, the Wallgate Water Management System supports efficient day-to-day operations while helping improve safety, reduce water misuse and provide dependable performance in demanding custodial environments.
