Robust Housing Group Home: Safe, Durable Living for NDIS Participants
This project involved the design and construction of a Robust Housing Group Home under the NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) guidelines, specifically for participants with high support needs and complex behaviours.
SamiDesign’s architectural approach combines timeless design, sustainability, and human-centered principles to create spaces that are functional, calming, and inclusive. The home was designed to meet SDA Robust requirements while reflecting SamiDesign’s philosophy of harmonious, purpose-driven architecture that prioritises dignity and independence.
Key design considerations included:
- Impact-resistant finishes and fixtures to withstand heavy use and reduce maintenance
- Safe bathroom environments with ligature-resistant features integrated subtly to avoid an institutional feel
- Accessible layouts that comply with Australian Standards and SDA Design Guidelines
- Calming interiors and sensory comfort through curated colour palettes and durable materials
- Sustainability through efficient water systems and long-life products
These principles ensure the home is not only compliant but also warm, welcoming, and empowering for residents.
